About the role

The Project Editor (PE) role is ideal for anyone interested in using and developing their project management skills, and ideal for anyone who finds reward in driving book teams and book authors forwards every day to meet their publication goals. PEs are core members of the Packt Expert Network book teams, and they are responsible for creating, maintaining, and driving project and marketing schedules forwards so that book teams publish and market on time. PEs have an ability and readiness to negotiate and problem solve scheduling details with the book team, and an aptitude to build a professional rapport and influence with authors to keep them on track to their book schedules.

PEs work with a folio of multiple projects, so they must be able to work successfully across many projects at once. The organization skills of the PE allow them to engage and problem solve scheduling details across their folio, and stay in regular contact with their folio of authors and book teams. In a dynamic publishing industry where technology is changing so frequently, and the best laid plans need to change sometime, the ability to adapt and re-organize project schedules is a key challenge and a key reward of the PE position.

About PEN

Packt Expert Network (PEN) works with expert authors and influential authors to create books useful to tech communities. PEN combines both the knowledge and the experience of seasoned tech industry leaders in a comprehensive range of books dedicated to every tech domain.

What you’ll do?

  • Drive book schedules daily and collaborate with book teams to meet publishing and marketing dates
  • Continuously maintain and publish a live project schedule towards publication and marketing
  • Work with Authors, Reviewers, and Editors to optimize publication and marketing schedules
  • Problem solve, when necessary, to keep authors and book teams on schedule
  • Maintain the integrity of process and good practice at each stage in the project
  • Manage or refer conflicts between deadlines, processes, and quality, where appropriate
  • Relate, build positive rapport, and support Authors to have a positive experience with Packt
  • Relate to and support Technical Reviewers to have a positive experience with Packt
  • Identify and proactively address any publishing problems as early as possible
  • Alert the Project Manager to serious schedule problems
  • Ensure payments to TRs and Authors and third parties are secured

Salary Range - INR 25-40K Gross per month
