Job Description

Background

iDE is an international nonprofit dedicated to combating poverty in the developing world not through handouts, but by helping rural households access the tools and knowledge they need to increase their income and improve their health and well-being. iDE has over 40 years of experience and programs in 12 countries in Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, and Central America.

IDE's vision, to catalyze the power of entrepreneurship to allow millions of people to lift themselves out of poverty, is ambitious and bold. We need a person who is, first and foremost, passionate about this vision.

The Climate, Resilience, and Agriculture (CRAG) Department is responsible for providing programmatic backstopping to our teams globally and leading our agriculture strategy. Climate & Resilience is one of the major cross-sectional tactics at the heart of iDE. iDE recognizes that climate change disproportionately affects the vulnerable communities that we work with. iDE employs a variety of different tools and approaches to improve the resilience of communities to climate shocks and stresses based on the different contexts in which we work. In each of these cases, we establish systems (market-based or governance-based) to ensure that the activities and benefits continue after project funding ends.

iDE is seeking one qualified, capable, and hard-working individual to serve as the Resilience Intern. This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in international development, resilience building, and climate adaptation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Literature Review of Resilience-Building Evidence

  • Perform a desk-based literature review of scholarly and grey literature to build a database of resilience-building implementation strategies;
  • Interview iDE project managers to add to the evidence base for the resilience database.

Update Recommendation Table

  • With the supervision of the Senior Associate for Resilience & Net Zero, match findings from the literature review to our Resilience Recommendation Table;
  • Assist with mapping strategies outside of the literature review and reorganizing currently mapped activities across the 11 determinants of resilience.

Contribute to an Academic Article on Resilience Building

  • The literature review will be used for an upcoming academic article on resilience building; the intern will have a chance to be a contributing author on the article if published.

  • Fluent in English. A second language that’s used in an area where we work is a plus (i.e. Spanish, Portuguese, French, Khmer, Nepali, Bengali, Swahili, etc.)
