About the Role:

We are looking for a proactive, highly motivated, outcome-oriented Accounting Leader to join our Revenue Accounting team. This role will support the accounting close process and assist with the launch of new products. The ideal candidate for this position:

  • Has a strong understanding of ASC 606
  • Pays close attention to detail, with the ability to multitask
  • Has the ability to work independently, while also being able to lead other team members
  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams such as Sales, FPA, Legal, and Revenue Operations

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Oversee the accounting close process, including review and approval of revenue-related journal entries and timely review of reconciliations and flux analysis
  • Review complex revenue contracts and make determinations on revenue recognition approach
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, Finance, Technical Accounting, and Revenue Operations teams to advise on non-standard contract terms and billing arrangements, while helping to develop operational best practices
  • Provide guidance and support to both Finance and business partners on revenue recognition matters, including revenue implications of new business initiatives and contract negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 606 (or relevant accounting standards) and other regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with external auditors to support annual audit procedures
  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in revenue accounting processes through automation and system enhancements
  • Lead initiatives to streamline workflows, eliminate manual tasks, and improve controls in the revenue recognition process

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of experience in a revenue accounting role, with 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Large pre-ipo or public company experience is a plus
  • Background in public accounting (Big 4 experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of SOX requirements
  • Thorough understanding of ASC 606 and ASC 340
  • Experience in the technology or SaaS industry is a plus
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and collaborating effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex contracts and financial data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-financial audiences
  • Experience with Netsuite Zuora, advanced Excel skills, knowledge of SQL are a plus

Our cash compensation amount for this role is between $131,000 $155,000 in San Francisco New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
