The Platform Leader is accountable for driving the strategic technical design, implementation, and long-term vision for SAP Platforms, applications, technical artefacts and integrations. This role involves strategic leadership, working closely with key stakeholders to align platform initiatives with business goals, ensuring that the technology landscape supports current needs while also preparing for future growth and innovation. In partnership with our SI partner, AMS Partner, SAP, and the business technology services (BTS) architecture team, this role oversees planning, delivery and support functions across Basis, Infrastructure, Security, technical development, integrations, and overall technical architecture of our global SAP solution. The role demands a blend of strategic thinking, hands-on leadership, problem-solving, and strong relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the strategic technical design, implementation, and long-term vision for SAP platforms and integrations under the Optimus program.
- Oversee SAP Basis operations, SAP RISE platform enhancements, and hybrid landscape performance optimization.
- Manage platform security, including SoD conflict resolution, role building, user access management, identity management, patching, and disaster recovery.
- Lead the implementation of iPaaS platforms for seamless integration across hybrid and heterogeneous systems.
- Develop and maintain a centralized, reusable API estate with a focus on versioning and lifecycle management.
- Oversee system refresh processes and implement data masking strategies to ensure landscape security and quality.
- Manage vendor support teams, drive SLA compliance, and challenge partners for continuous improvement through structured reporting.
- Ensure smooth day-to-day operations and transitions between project phases and BAU (Business As Usual).
- Collaborate with AMS and SI partners to improve platform health, reduce manual tasks, and optimize cost-effectiveness.
- Shape the integration and application architecture, setting strategic standards and guidelines for future scalability.
- Maintain strategic partnerships with technology vendors, ensuring their roadmaps align with business objectives.
- Stay ahead of technology trends, leveraging emerging innovations to support evolving business models.
- Manage financial budgets strategically, aligning investments with long-term platform and application health.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience working with SAP technologies, including S/4HANA, in a large-scale, multi-platform systems environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing SAP Basis operations and SAP RISE platforms, including cloud and hybrid landscapes.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing system refresh processes and data masking strategies.
- Expertise in SAP Integration Suite (CPI, API Management) and event-driven architectures for hybrid integrations.
- Strong background in managing vendor support teams, driving SLA compliance, and leading structured improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to manage global SAP users and landscapes across diverse geographies.
- Demonstrated success in delivering large-scale IT projects, developing long-term technical roadmaps, and aligning them with business goals
- Strong technical expertise in SAP development tools (ABAP, UI5, BTP) and platform security (SoD conflict resolution, access management).
- Excellent strategic planning and operational oversight capabilities, balancing immediate needs with long-term vision.
- Advanced financial and budgetary planning skills for managing large-scale IT platforms.
