About our Team

  • Our Data Science Life Science team is focused on developing and evolving data enrichment capabilities.

  • We are optimizing search and discovery for enriched data on Elsevier’s Life Sciences products.

  • We are a very diverse team, engaged and inclusive, working in an agile way.

  • We support the development of one of Elsevier’s flagship products Embase, a biomedical bibliographic database that allows our customers to find the right information to make the right decisions.It is for example used to conduct systematic literature reviews, screen for adverse drug events and comply with regulations.

About the Role

  • Together with your colleagues you will develop the Embase taxonomy (Emtree) that is used for enrichment of literature and user search queries. It is an essential step to make sure that millions of biomedical literature records can be searched and found by our users.

  • As a team member, you’ll collaborate closely with others, each bringing their unique domain expertise. Our goal is to meet our customers’ needs effectively. Our team specializes in areas related to the main branches of the Emtree taxonomy, including drugs, medical devices, and diseases.

  • You will be a key part of our agile team to support all activities around data enrichment, maintenance and innovative development.

  • You will work with other Data Discovery and Enrichment Experts to secure our high-quality standards.

  • You will work closely with the experts in our larger Data Science Life Sciences team.

Responsibilities:

  • Curate and update our disease taxonomy for use across Elsevier life science products.

  • Assist with content enrichment tasks, including creating reference sets and maintaining dictionaries.

  • Conduct quality assurance on biology datasets in the life science domain.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute projects, leveraging domain expertise.

Key skills:

  • Hold a medical degreeor a life sciences degree with knowledge on pathology/anatomy.

  • Preferably have(user) experience with life science (bibliographic)databases or information systems.

  • Detail-oriented professional committed to maintaining high data quality standards.

  • Demonstrate project contribution skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Be an effective communicator, capable of building relationships with cross-functional teams.
