The Role:
Reporting to the Director, Investor Relations, the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications candidate will serve as a crucial communications leader for company-wide initiatives, overseeing the creation and implementation of comprehensive communication plans that engage a diverse set of stakeholders. This role will be responsible for crafting a wide range of communication materials that support the company's strategic objectives; interacting with key internal and external stakeholders; overseeing the company’s media engagement initiatives; supporting internal communications and employee engagement activities and enhancing the company’s corporate visibility.

*As part of the interview process, you will be asked to craft a brief media pitch you would have used to amplify the company’s recent updates from the ESMO Congress 2024.

Responsibilities:

Corporate communications and messaging:

  • Drive the development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies that support the company's financial and strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with leaders across the company to develop an in-depth understanding of our programs, strategy, business operations, financial performance, and competitors to represent Nuvalent and inform messaging
  • Partner with numerous functions to enable accurate and optimal creation, evolution, and delivery of key messages, and to ensure that external communications are aligned across all external audiences
  • Support the creation and refinement of core communication materials, including press releases, presentations, company emails, and more
  • Project manage cross-functional review and approval of external disclosures
  • Lead digital and social media initiatives, advising on the most impactful platforms, crafting tailored communication strategies, and delivering engaging content to maximize reach
  • Manage the corporate website, assisting with content strategy, visual design, and user experience to keep it updated with the latest pipeline advancements and scientific insights
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to create employee communications that drive engagement and foster a vibrant company culture
  • Oversee relationships with external communications partners

Media relations:

  • Develop and execute a strategic media engagement program that amplifies the company’s strategic objectives, conduct peer research, and quarterly updating of media target lists
  • Craft compelling and targeted media pitches around company milestones and manage outreach
  • Create briefing materials for management in preparation for media engagements and assist in training for spokespeople
  • Identify and coordinate participation in industry conferences and thought leadership opportunities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for media personnel
  • Provide accurate, consistent, and timely responses to all external inquiries from media personnel

Analytics:

  • Analyze engagement trends for our company and its peers to inform communications and media strategies and monitor impact of strategies over time
  • Stay up-to-date on media trends and competitor activities, and provide guidance and support to the company's senior management team on industry sentiment and best practices
  • Monitor media coverage and social media mentions of Nuvalent to ensure factual accuracy of corporate updates and clinical data

Competencies:

  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience in writing external and internal facing communications for biotech or pharmaceutical companies
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful strategic communications initiatives that enhance corporate reputation and align with business objectives
  • Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop important relationships with all levels of management, identify issues and raise to key stakeholders
  • Process orientated, with excellent project management skills, including risk assessment and contingency planning
  • Deep understanding of relevant biotech, scientific and financial media outlets, and experience engaging with relevant health and business reporters
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and organization skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in corporate communications with a demonstrated understanding of the biotechnology industry
  • BA, BS or equivalent degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a relevant scientific discipline
  • Public biotech company experience
  • Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in corporate communications, public relations, and media relations
  • Experience working with all levels of management, consulting with key business stakeholders and serving as a trusted communications advisor
  • Ability to present and respond to questions about complex scientific and clinical data
  • Highly collaborative working style across internal and external teams
  • Familiarity with corporate website management, including content strategy, user experience, and visual design
  • Experience managing digital and social media platforms, with a strong understanding of how to leverage these channels for corporate communication and brand building
  • Experience preparing spokespeople for media engagements, including media training and message development
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to measure the effectiveness of communication initiatives and adjust strategies as needed
  • Experience with research/benchmarking projects
