Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser, and Pocket, a service for keeping up with the best content online. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role:

At Pocket, we love what we do, but more importantly we are building something that millions of people love, too. Pocket has become crucial to how over one million people discover and consume content worthy of their time and attention.

We’re looking for a passionate and skilled engineer to bring to life key aspects of our Android and iOS apps. Today, we have one Android engineer, one iOS engineer, one Front End Web engineer, and one Backend engineer. We’re looking to grow our mobile engineering force with someone who is interested in straddling the line between Android and iOS, and carrying learnings from one environment to the other. We are excited to provide the opportunity for an existing Android or iOS engineer to learn how the other half lives, and do not expect candidates to be experts in both systems out of the gate.

If you are passionate about using technology to improve people's lives, we believe Pocket has challenges that will excite you. We're a small team within a well-established organization (Pocket was acquired by Mozilla in 2017), and that means lots of opportunity to build, learn and grow in a variety of areas, collaborate closely with fellow team members from many different fields, and to own things from start to finish that have tremendous impact on large numbers of people.

Our Android and iOS apps have been recognized time and again as leaders on their respective platforms. Our users agree: Pocket for Android and iOS are one of the few mobile apps that can claim a decade of near-perfect user ratings.

Come work with us and make a huge impact.

What you’ll do:

  • Own key aspects of Pocket on the Android and iOS platforms.
  • Use and expand your skills in every part of developing an app, from UI down to the underlying architectures that bring apps to life.
  • Create a dynamic, flexible, native user experience that allows our users to discover, save, organize, consume, and share millions of articles.
  • Work closely with our existing mobile engineers to build an extraordinary engineering experience for yourself and your peers.
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, designers, product managers, and support teams to create a wonderful product experience for Pocket’s Android and iOS users.
  • Participate daily in decisions influencing the future of Pocket and its mobile platform.

What you'll bring:

  • Several years of real-world Android or iOS experience with contributions to one or more high quality Android or iOS apps.
  • Knowledge of the Android or iOS SDK inside and out.
  • Substantial experience with Swift and/or Kotlin.
  • Either experience or strong interest in building development skills on both Android and iOS.
  • Experience resolving problems, signaling risk, fostering change, and facilitating collaborative decision-making in a cross-functional team.
  • Passion for building good products.
  • Interest in learning and experimenting with new technologies.
    What you’ll get:
  • Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees - we share in our success as one team
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
  • Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together
  • Country specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday
  • One-time home office stipend
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Quarterly well-being stipend
  • Considerable paid parental leave
  • Employee referral bonus program
  • Other benefits (life/AD&D, disability, EAP, etc. - varies by country)
