Job Description

Demiurge Studios is seeking a highly motivated Senior Quest Designer with open-world RPG experience. As a Senior Quest Designer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing quests ranging from procedural open-world encounters to handcrafted story beats for the next great Demiurge game.
The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about world-building and quest design, has demonstrable experience crafting fun and engaging game content for players, and thrives collaborating with a cross-discipline development team.
Remote work is available for this role. Relocation assistance to the Boston area may also be available.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the design, development, and pipeline of the game’s quest system focused on clear goal setting for players that build exposure, experience, and mastery of game mechanics.
  • Build best-in-class, engaging gameplay challenges, encounters, and story beats that engage and delight players while immersing them in the game world and narrative.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to prototype and iterate on quest systems and content creation that ensure a thrilling player experience.
  • Solve creative & technical challenges that require navigating ambiguity and production constraints.
  • Ownership of quest and encounter features and design decisions.
  • Technical implementation of features within Unreal utilizing blueprints, Unreal features, and other tools as applicable.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience as a game designer working on quest content or goal-based progression systems, ideally in open-world RPG games.
  • Demonstrable experience designing significant chunks of open-world game content on at least one shipped open-world RPG game. Please submit a portfolio link that showcases your experience!
  • Experience designing systems and implementing workflows for content creation, management, and tuning.
  • Hands-on experience creating game content with a AAA game engine (strong preference for Unreal expertise).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey designs clearly.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to operate within an agile, fast-paced, and sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • Passion for open-world RPG gameplay with the desire and motivation to take an idea from initial concept to launch.
