Our client is a professional service firm with a nationwide reach, providing comprehensive advisory services to individuals and businesses in accounting, tax, payroll, and related areas. We are assisting them in their search for a dynamic Senior Tax Accountant.
This role involves working closely with the CEO, reviewing tax returns, preparing tax projections, and assisting the tax team during busy periods. The Senior Tax Accountant will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of tax filings while also working closely with the Tax Preparation Specialist and Project Manager. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of US federal and state laws.
This is a full time contractor role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the CEO and submit a weekly status report detailing ongoing tasks and project updates.
- Review tax returns prepared by the Tax Preparation Specialist team, providing constructive criticism, guidance, and support.
- Provide leadership and direction for the Tax Preparation Specialist team, fostering an environment of growth and development.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure smooth workflow and timely collection of required documents.
- Handle tax preparation duties when the Tax Preparation Specialist needs assistance due to capacity or demand.
- Maintain a strong understanding of US federal and state tax regulations.
- Conduct tax research to answer tax-related questions from clients as stand-alone projects. Prepare detailed tax reports with answers and recommendations based on the research.
- Communicate directly with tax clients to answer their tax-related questions and concerns.
- Respond to tax-related inquiries passed on by the Senior Accountant.
- Prepare tax projection reports by reviewing current financial information and utilizing prior tax return data to estimate future tax liabilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to solve complex tax issues and provide solutions that meet client needs.
- Manage the workload and stress associated with tax season while ensuring deadlines are met.
Requirements
- CPA or EA certification is required.
- 5-10 years of experience in tax preparation and review.
- Strong expertise in US federal and state taxation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and mentor the Tax Preparation Specialist team.
- Ability to handle the stress and demands of tax season, including taking over tax preparation duties when needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide effective solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in professional tax software and tax projection tools.
