Seeking a Senior Technical Documentation Specialist to support activities related to Business System Modernization for the Global Force Information Management (GFIM) Program for the US Army. Work location is client site, Fort Belvoir, VA. Remote teleworking is allowed.
Responsibilities
- Write high-impact documentation for all parts of the DevOps, Application, Data Science, and Data Engineering lifecycle, including deployment and configuration guidance for IT and DevOps engineers, user guidance for data scientists and data engineers, API and command references, tutorials, walkthroughs, sample apps, and best practices guides.
- Collaborate with engineers and product managers to develop effective, user-focused documentation.
- Collaborate with technical staff on best practices, onboarding material, and other scenario-based guidance.
- Help drive a use-case-based information-architecture approach to organizing content.
- Help continually improve our authoring and production tools and processes.
- Edit content for technical accuracy, grammar, usage, adherence to style, and fit in information architecture.
- Define processes for writing internal documentation (guides, architectural overviews, training materials, API references, etc) across engineering teams, including RDBMS Kernel, Networking, Security, Application/Client Software, UX, DevOps, Release, and more.
- Work with TPMs (technical program managers) and engineers to ensure all components of the SDLC (software development lifecycle) are well-documented and the documentation is easy to find and use.
- Establish and encourage good internal documentation practices and standards.
- Help engineers improve their writing skills for both internal and external documentation.
Qualifications
MINIMUM:
- Minimum of a SECRET security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; years of experience can be considered in lieu of a degree
- Creating technical documentation for internal engineering teams.
- Expertise in project management, with the ability to initiate, implement, and maintain multiple projects concurrently and prioritize work.
- Experience with using and documenting any of the following:
- Programming languages/APIs, particularly Python, Go.
- Expert ability to create, manage and maintain technical diagrams with minimal guidance.
- Source control and CI/CD technologies (GitLab, Jenkins, Lambda, etc).
- Best practices for software development, testing, and release management
- Experience with documentation solutions (content management systems, wiki systems, full-text search, etc).
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint), with advanced knowledge of Word’s Track Changes functionality and ability to perform basic document formatting.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Master’s degree in a related technical discipline
- Top Secret security clearance
- Exposure to Cloud technologies (ideally AWS).
- Knowledge of open source development/management tools
- Comfortable working within a complex code base across multiple teams and dependencies in a fast-paced development environment.
- Proven self-starter with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and experience building relationships with SMEs and engineers.
