What this role is about:
RapidSOS’s Summer Internship program is a full-time, fully immersive internship program designed to complement your education with real-world experience. This program will allow you to take on projects at a rapidly growing start-up, working closely and cross-functionally with team members throughout the company. This is an amazing opportunity to not only join a rising and dynamic startup but also make a measurable impact.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will play a role in creating a highly reliable platform that provides life-saving data to dispatchers covering 99% of the US population. You will collaborate with a group of dedicated engineers to solve large problems in manageable phases, working to reimagine how emergencies are managed around the world. This is an exciting opportunity to help scope and implement new features and system improvements for the RapidSOS Emergency Data platform that manages 400,000 emergency calls every day!

What you’ll do:

  • Use industry best practices to build and maintain API(s) in production
  • Get hands-on experience with CI/CD processes and tools to enhance software delivery and quality
  • Apply fundamental concepts of database management and operations
  • Practice applying asynchronous programming concepts to real life systems
  • Develop and update technical documentation, which is crucial for maintaining standards and knowledge sharing within the team
  • Assist the team with additional ad hoc projects

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:

  • Actively working towards a degree in Computer Science or a related technology major with at least one previous internship experience
  • Proficiency in Python with knowledge of testing and REST APIs
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, depending on the nature of the work
  • Highly self-motivated with initiative, ability to learn quickly, and proficient communication skills
  • No ego - our team believes in “purpose over pride” where no task is beneath us

Bonus:

  • Basic understanding of cloud computing services, preferably AWS
  • Understanding of websockets and serverless architecture

Starting pay for a successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include experience, relevant skills, training, education, location, business needs, or market demands. The salary range for this role is $1,600 per week.
