ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Manager, Environment and Land, is responsible for the direction of a wide range of environmental and land permitting, compliance, sustainability, resource management, land sales, due diligence, lease management, and administrative services. The Senior Manager, Environment and Land works with all levels of operational management, business partners, external trade groups, and consultants to achieve departmental goals.
Strong desire for this individual to reside in the Central US. Location is flexible. This remote position will be based out of our Chicago Headquarters.
This position is principally responsible for the following regions/operations: ACM North Central Region, Chicago Slag; Ste. Genevieve, MO, Paulding and OH, Alpena, MI cement plants and associated cement terminals.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
- Work with operational management and local/state agencies on environmental compliance, reserve replacements, permitting projects, disposal projects, public affairs activities, internal and external audits, and implementation of the environmental management system.
- Effectively oversee compliance initiatives with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations and requirements, including recordkeeping and preparing internal and external reports.
- Direct ISO 14001 Environmental Management System including auditing, internal and external reporting, and non-conformance resolution
- Promote and coordinate the integration of and sustainability initiatives, policies, and products, operations;
- Coordinate non-strategic property sales and review and handle all leases within the company.
- Provide leadership in the development of the annual budget, including the management of third-party spend.
- Coordinate and at times, represent the views of the Company before trade associations, special interest groups, and various regulatory bodies.
- Manage major environmental liabilities within the business.
- Provides leadership with greenfield permitting, restoration activities and land sales.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams that develop strategic plans for the acquisition and permitting of land, logistics, water, and reserves as needed to effectively leverage current and future business opportunities.
- Coordinate community outreach events within the operations support, while promoting the company views.
- Works on acquisitions or disposal of land assets with Legal Department oversight. Handle all leases within the assigned region, and ensure that the region complies with all aspects of the lease.
- Direct and or coordinate land use entitlement processes including land annexation, zoning, special use and conditional use permits, and PUDs as needed to maximize business operational footprint.
- Coordinate mine planning, permitting, surety bonding, end use and reclamation planning.
- Effectively oversee and coordinate annual restoration spending and provisioning for all assigned aggregate sites.
- Oversee Environmental Regulatory Compliance programs including Air permitting/compliance, Stormwater/NPDES permits/Compliance, USACE Waters of US, Endangered Species, Tier II reporting, TRI reporting, RCRA Subpart C and D waste compliance, SPCC, UST, and others as applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree
Additional Education Preferred: Master's Degree in Engineering or Science
Field of Study Preferred: Engineering, Environmental Science or related technical discipline.
Required Work Experience: 10-15 years
Required Computer and Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software.
Travel Requirements: 30-50%

- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment (“PPE”), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
