Summary:
As a Senior Security Engineer, Network Security, this role reports to the Manager of Network Security. This role is a senior role that assists in the designing, building, a nd maintaining network security technologies and configurations, leads in the development of junior staff, while continuously improving the network security program for the Cybersecurity Risk Management Department. This role is expected to have an advanced level of knowledge of firewalls and network security technologies. The senior engineer will be responsible for identifying and remediating security gaps, improving existing controls while creating new ones, mentoring and collaborating with other Cyber Security and Information Technology team members to secure the many security and information technology assets and data of Community Health Systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in designing, engineering, managing, reviewing, and recommending improvements for new and existing network security solutions, configurations and technologies.
Enhance preventative and automated network security controls aligned with business requirements along with common threats.
- Assist in developing strategies for expanding network segmentation, zero trust and visibility of cyber security threats and risks to include a diverse set of technologies across the spectrum of healthcare information technology assets including IoT.
- Assist in developing and improving standards, and processes for the identification and prioritization of threat remediation as well as processes and methodologies for metrics and KPIs related to network protections, security and compliance.
- Provide technical guidance to enterprise Cyber Security and Information Technology teams regarding the impact of network security controls in order to drive issues to remediation and develop systemically secure configurations.
- Assist in developing and documenting an overall network protection strategy including defining perimeters and subsequent defenses, external access, cloud and data center security, device class, and service segmentation.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by cybersecurity leadership.
Qualifications:
Education
- High School diploma required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science, (or Related Field), or equivalent experience preferred.
Required Experience
- 5+ years in Cyber Security, Firewall, Network & Cloud Security Technologies
Activities:
- Design and implement firewall and network protection technologies.
- Serve as a thought leader for network protection and influence strategy.

Preferred Experience
- 8+ Years in Cyber Security, Firewall and Network Security Technologies
Preferred License / Registration / Certification
- CISSP, GIAC, OSCP, PCNSA, PCNSE, SISE, CCNA and other Industry Standard Certifications.
Computer Skills Preferred
- Office, GSuite, Linux, Windows, Visio, Palo Alto Networks Firewalls, Panorama, Prisma, CISCO ASA & ISE, hybrid cloud environments, and various other cybersecurity tools and technologies as necessary.
