Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities

The ESG Advisory & Mandatory Reporting Business Line empowers clients’ transition to models of sustainable performance by integrating ESG priorities into business strategy and investment decisions, and rigorously reporting against progress. Specifically, we help companies define and implement an ESG program, manage and govern ESG data, and report & disclose ESG performance.

We seek a Principal Consultant specializing in Risk Management to lead and support our sustainability consulting services. This role combines strategic advisory and implementation, focusing on assessing and managing sustainability-related risks and opportunities for clients. You will lead us in designing and executing risk assessments, collaborating with service leads, managing stakeholder interactions, and contributing to thought leadership and business development. This is an exciting opportunity to help clients navigate complex sustainability challenges and drive value through risk-informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of sustainability risk assessments tailored to client needs and aligned with strategic, materiality, and regulatory advisory services.
  • Oversee the execution of risk assessments, including quantifying and qualifying risks and opportunities based on the client's value chain and dependencies on natural, human, and social/relationship capitals.
  • Educate and guide internal consultants, client sustainability teams, subject matter experts, functional experts, and executive leadership on sustainability risk management and its integration into business processes.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts on specialized risks (e.g., climate risk, human rights risk) and participate in cross-service initiatives that cut across various business lines.
  • Support or lead business development by identifying opportunities, contributing to client proposals, and building strong client relationships.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and content-based marketing initiatives, positioning the firm as a leader in sustainability risk management.
  • Identify needs for and, in collaboration with internal teams, facilitate building, acquiring, or implementing systems, databases, or software that enable efficient sustainability risk assessments.
  • Participate in team management, mentoring junior staff, managing direct reports, and engaging in hiring processes.

Key Requirements & Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 7-10 years of post-graduation experience, with a strong background in enterprise risk management and a demonstrated affinity for sustainability.
  • Expertise in enterprise risk management, with the ability to design and lead risk assessments in the context of sustainability.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with experience managing internal teams and diverse client stakeholders, including C-suite executives.
  • Strategic thinking and collaboration across service lines, ensuring risk assessments align with broader client objectives.
  • Effective communicator who can educate technical and non-technical audiences on risk management and sustainability topics.
  • Experience in business development, contributing to client growth through proposals and relationship building.
  • Familiarity with technical tools, systems, or software that support risk assessments and the ability to lead their implementation.
  • Strong team management and mentoring skills, with the potential for line management
  • Any of the following risk management certifications:
    • Certified Enterprise Risk Manager (CERM) o Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP)
    • ISO 31000 Risk Management Certification
    • Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) with a focus on risk
  • Optional but desirable sustainability-related certifications:
    • Certified Sustainability Professional (CSP)
    • Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certification
    • LEED Accreditation
    • GRI Certified Training Program
    • SASB Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) Credential
