Job Description

We 💛 small business

We founded Holvi in 2011, in Helsinki. As self-employed people wading through oceans of paperwork, we noticed something funny going on – traditional banks were giving us the cold shoulder. Why not help ourselves? We asked. And so, with time and effort (and lots of coffee), we mastered small business finance – and Holvi was born.

Our vision is simple: Eliminate the distractions of financial admin and simplify work life, because running a business is hard enough. Small businesses shouldn’t have to worry about spreadsheets and lost receipts.

Since our inception as a pioneering fintech, we've experienced our fair share of challenges and growth. We explored different paths, and from those experiences, we've evolved. Today, we stand as a team-owned and profitable company, proud of our journey.

Right now, we’re looking for a VP of Engineering to join our team in Helsinki. If you want to help us make self-employment and running a small business a little easier, Holvi is for you.

VP of Engineering at Holvi

VP of Engineering is a key member of the senior management team at Holvi, responsible for leading the engineering, product design and infrastructure teams. This includes leading teams of more than thirty experts, ensuring we have the right people working efficiently together to maintain and improve the product. The primary objective of this role is to lead and grow the teams to increase our capacity to deliver services to our customers. You’ll also be responsible for ensuring our engineering and product development processes and platform operations are compliant with the best practices and regulatory requirements expected in the financial services industry.

You’ll be leading experts focusing on software engineering, product ownership, design, production infrastructure and technical architecture. Your goal will be facilitating, coordinating and planning how the experts in your teams can work at their best level.

A typical day could see you:

  • Leading the product management, design, software engineering, platform and internal IT teams, providing oversight and strategic guidance for the teams, and directly leading the people leads in the teams.
  • Providing expertise, insights and best practices for quarterly and annual planning within your domain to contribute strategically to budgeting, roadmap development and overall company-level planning alongside the senior management team.
  • Working with our functional areas like payments or customer lifecycle management to support the roadmap work and resourcing for current and upcoming initiatives.
  • Actively planning and participating in recruitment efforts and employer branding initiatives for technical and product design talent.
  • Monitoring, analysing and optimising vendor costs, including expenses associated with internal IT and platform.
  • Ensuring that our systems are running reliably for both our customers as well as for our internal tooling. You work proactively with the teams on improving systems availability and security. When incidents occur, you provide the necessary oversight in speedy resolution.
  • Ensuring comprehensive resource planning for your entire department by monitoring current status and forecasting future needs, including key expert hires to ensure we have the right people with the right skills and motivation.
  • Guiding, mentoring and coaching senior team leads and members of the development team.
  • Ensuring compliance of data and assets under your management. You’ll be taking part in audits and reviews to understand risks involved, and planning work on needed mitigation measures.
  • Participating as a member in the work of the company’s management team. Our management team work is very collegial. We all have our areas of responsibility while contributing to overall company development. We are very allergic to office politics and have a high level of trust in everyone working in the company’s best interest.
