As a VP, Product Management for Core Platform, you will be responsible for formulating and continually refining our business strategy and product roadmap for our Core Platform; ensuring smooth operation of critical systems while prioritizing major growth opportuities; partnering with engineering teams to define technological design and scope; leading cross-functional teams to tackle initiatives; and leading client conversations with sales and customer success.

The Impact You’ll Have

  • Run the core of Marqeta’s issuing and processing platform which handles $200B+ in annual TPV for the largest fintech providers, balancing high-growth innovation with scalability and resiliency
  • Translate nuanced technical concepts into business and customer outcomes, clearly communicating impacts with non-technical audiences
  • Lead and inspire others with a compelling product vision and roadmap, driving alignment and seeking consensus among leadership, peers, and teams
  • Build, develop, and scale a distributed product organization with high-caliber talent, instilling a disciplined approach to the PDLC supported by metrics, processes, & tools
  • Bring customer empathy to priority discussions with engineering leaders and partners, framing tradeoffs with an ability to weigh qualitative and quantitative inputs
  • Assess potential tradeoffs of initiatives, with detailed review of proposals and designs to give feedback within the Product team and to cross-functional partners
  • Optimize network and bank operations with Marqeta’s partners
  • Drive accountability to take action on complex problems to deliver solutions in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
  • Aggregate feedback from the team (with data on product usage or performance) to identify key themes and areas for improvement or investment for customer and business outcomes
  • Act as technical advisor to educate and evangelize feature(s) with customers via meetings, presentations, and other forums

Who You Are

  • 15+ years of experience leading Product Management functions in the tech sector
  • Strong fintech background with payments and/or financial services expertise is required, specifically working with card networks and banks, ideally on issuing and processing
  • Demonstrated track record of scaling a highly complex platform while shipping technically detailed products and/or platforms in multifaceted ecosystems
  • Ability to build, sell, and evangelize a compelling vision, strategy, and plan to various stakeholders across the company, with customers, and to the market
  • Strong bias for execution, able to work through internal and external roadblocks
  • Experience working directly with engineering teams with a clear understanding of their tradeoffs
  • Excellent technical acumen, curiosity, and familiarity with new technologies, APIs, programming languages, payment industry requirements, and databases
  • Deep customer empathy and experience shaping product direction and execution in partnership with go-to-market counterparts who market the solutions and manage customer relationships
  • A clear communicator, active listener, and cross-organizational relationship builder who can drive for results cross-functionally and influence others within the company
  • Define and translate a vision into detailed and actionable plans
  • Ability to balance breadth and depth of understanding, engaging with the team on detailed issues or updates across many product domains

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:

  • National: $225,000 - $300,000
  • Premium: $253,125 - $337,500
  • Premium Plus: $281,250 - $375,000
