The healthcare sector is a major employer through systems like Dartmouth-Hitchcock (centered in Lebanon), Catholic Medical Center (Manchester), and Elliot Health System. Dartmouth College in Hanover is a world-class research university that generates biomedical and technology spinoffs, and its Tuck School of Business produces graduates who often stay in the region.
Defense is another anchor: BAE Systems has operated a major facility in Nashua since the 1950s, manufacturing electronic warfare systems and employing thousands of engineers. Segue and other defense tech firms have clustered around BAE.
Remote work has been particularly powerful in New Hampshire because of the combination of no income tax, low cost of living relative to Massachusetts, excellent schools, and genuine outdoor recreation.
