Job Description

Salary: $100,000 - 130,000/year with bonus. This position allows for 1-2 days per week remote / work from home. We are seeking a seasoned Accounting Manager with extensive experience in construction accounting and proficiency in Sage 300 (Timberline) software. The ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of financial management, reporting, and compliance within our construction business, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls specific to the construction industry.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for construction projects and overall company performance.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, and cash flows, providing regular financial updates to senior management and project teams.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations for cost control and profitability improvement.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and operations teams to optimize project financial performance and resolve financial issues.
  • Utilize Sage 300 (Timberline) software for financial data management, reporting, and analysis.
  • Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance related to construction accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry or with a General Contractor (GC), including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proficiency in Sage 300 (Timberline) software is required; familiarity with other construction-specific software is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and project management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop accounting staff.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools.
