Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls specific to the construction industry.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for construction projects and overall company performance.
- Monitor project costs, budgets, and cash flows, providing regular financial updates to senior management and project teams.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations for cost control and profitability improvement.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and operations teams to optimize project financial performance and resolve financial issues.
- Utilize Sage 300 (Timberline) software for financial data management, reporting, and analysis.
- Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance related to construction accounting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry or with a General Contractor (GC), including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Proficiency in Sage 300 (Timberline) software is required; familiarity with other construction-specific software is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and project management.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop accounting staff.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools.
