Happy Money is seeking an exceptional, motivated attorney to join our legal team to focus on consumer and borrower aspects of the business. In this role, you will work closely with the Company’s General Counsel to navigate a wide range of issues, including marketing, compliance, litigation, product development, and privacy. The lawyer in this role will have an exciting opportunity to build and develop Happy Money’s business.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Actively collaborate with teams across the company, including product, strategy, compliance, financial partnerships, people and culture, and marketing
  • Drafting and updating terms of service, privacy policies, and other consumer-facing documents.
  • Review all marketing materials including social media, direct mail, and email.
  • Counsel on all aspects of consumer litigation and complaints across a range of regulatory issues including FCRA and FDCPA among others.
  • Advise compliance team on regulatory issues, audits, and state licensing requirements.
  • Strategize about regulatory developments to help us stay ahead of the game

ABOUT YOU

  • JD from an accredited U.S. law school
  • 5+ years of experience handling a combination of product counseling, consumer litigation, regulatory compliance, and privacy.
  • Currently eligible to practice in a U.S. state bar (or D.C.)
  • Expert in federal and state consumer protection and regulations: FCRA, ECOA, FDCPA, GLBA, etc.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and propose creative solutions to legal and business issues in a hands-on manner
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills
  • Strong work ethic and careful attention to detail
  • Excel at understanding complex legal topics and explaining them to non-attorneys in clear and concise terms
  • Experience with financial technology, including NACHA.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts
  • Experience handling general corporate matters
