Controller
Salary Range $95,000-$100,000

Rebuilding Together, a national housing and community revitalization nonprofit with more than 110 affiliates around the country, is seeking a Controller. This position can work remotely with occasional travel and reports to the Vice President of Finance.

The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, including financial reporting, regulatory compliance, maintenance/reconciliation of financial systems, and management of cashflow activities. The Controller will also assist the VP of Finance with audit responses and ensuring proper financial controls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees management of the general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, tax payments, bank and fund balance reconciliation; all in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Executes timely closing processes (monthly, quarterly, year-end) necessary to deliver financial statements for key stakeholders and performance data for Board of Directors & Management review.
  • Performs routine cashflow analysis to ensure timely collection of receivables and payment of obligations.
  • Performs and/or supervises monthly balance sheet account analysis to ensure favorable financial position.
  • Coordinates with Human Resources to process and record payroll expenses
  • Collaborates with grants management team to ensure timely draws from grantors and submission of reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Executes journal adjustments as needed and communicates observations to management regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
  • Coordinates work relating to external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records. Is further responsible for assisting the Vice President of Finance in the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from audit findings.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Finance, coordinates and documents implementation of accounting systems, subsidiary systems, and accounting control procedures.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of the department processes.
  • Compiles aggregate reporting from other internal staff as required by management, government, or regulatory agencies.
  • Supports other departments by researching variances, running reports, and other related tasks.
  • Assists with the coordination of charitable registration and compliance with state and federal regulators.
  • Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents and contracts for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies.

Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of senior accountant regarding payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant activities and monthly reconciliations.
  • Reviews expense reporting, check deposits, coding, and reconciliations submitted by staff for accuracy.
  • Oversees subordinate’s development, training and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Educating staff on the use of financial software/tools, accounting policies and procedures.
  • Represents Finance leadership in the absence of the Vice President.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA required.
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressively responsible related experience in all aspects of accounting.
  • Non-profit experience required, government grants accounting is HIGHLY desired.
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Sage Intacct expertise required, Salesforce experience a plus.

National office staff who will be working in the office (full time or hybrid) will be required to be vaccinated, unless an exemption is requested due to health or religious reasons. In addition, National staff who visit or work with affiliates in person must be vaccinated. Our National office will continue to follow local and government recommendations regarding COVID.
