Spatial Front provides IT solutions to federal, state, and local governments and the private sector. We are currently looking for a Database Administrator to join our dynamic team supporting our Federal Government client.
Summary of Major Job Functions
- Non-technical activities: Plan and support specific business, management, functional, technical, and professional or policy areas of the project. Identify issues, conduct analysis and assessments, and provide inputs to program/project leaders
- Technical activities: Refactor and maintain database schemas, deploy updates using CI/CD pipelines, and develop stored procedures, troubleshoot for Operations and Maintenance (O&M), including security patching and debugging
Primary Responsibilities
- Analyze and refactor existing database schemas by designing and implementing new tables or columns to optimize performance and scalability
- Ensure the integrity and performance of the database schema through ongoing maintenance activities, including Data Definition Language (DDL) updates and documentation
- Develop and implement data security policies, procedures, and best practices
- Identify and resolve all issues related to database systems to ensure that systems are online and without service interruption
- Develop, maintain and implement database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data reliability and minimize downtime
- Develop new and enhance existing standards, processes and procedures, and guidelines for database environments using industry experiences, best practices research, and business needs
- Deploy new database schemas and updates using Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methodologies to ensure seamless transitions and minimal downtime
- Provide support during software releases, including database changes, ensuring successful deployment and functionality post-release
- Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to support database deployment and management on Amazon Web Services (AWS), ensuring best practices are followed for security and performance
- Engage in Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities for the large scale application, including troubleshooting, debugging, patching vulnerabilities, and addressing security concerns to ensure the system's reliability and security
- Database programming to include table normalization, SQL (Structured Query Language), and data integrity
- Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements
- Provide after-hours and emergency support for services critical to sustaining operations outside of normal business hours, on an as needed basis
- Manage access and permissions for the database to assign read, add, update, and delete privileges at the form or field level to individual users as requested by the database owner
Requirements
- BA/BS from an accredited university in a related field
- 5-10 years of experience
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with various database management systems (e.g. SQL Server, Azure SQL database).
- Experience with Windows operating system environment, backend coding languages (e.g., SQL)
- Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and optimizing database performance
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices related to database deployment.
- Experience with AWS services, particularly those related to database management (e.g., RDS, Aurora).
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in troubleshooting and optimizing database performance.
- Knowledge of security best practices in database management.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- MA/MS from an accredited university in a related field
Additional Information
- In order to meet the clearance requirements for this opportunity, candidates must be authorized to work in the US with residency in the US for at least three years.

- The salary for this position is $70,000 - $115,000 annually
