The External Communications team is responsible for defining the brand narrative and telling the story of GFiber across multiple platforms.
Role Description
As our External Communications Manager, you will serve as the primary driver for GFiber’s product communications and oversee all of our written product materials and communications. In your role, you will coordinate PR strategies with local teams and agencies, draft communications materials, and work closely with the product teams. You will also oversee a team of writers, ensuring their workload is balanced and projects are successfully executed.
In this role, you'll:
- Work closely with local PR agencies, local teams and product teams to leverage market dynamics and create individual plans for upcoming product highlights, including launches, Labs projects, app updates, and other initiatives (product conferences, etc.). This responsibility includes:
- Drafting blog posts, media releases and other comms docs.
- Coordinating PR strategy with local markets and local agencies.
- Managing product award nominations.
- Mining for opportunities and helping prioritize work to maximize opportunities for coverage in support of our brand and sales goals.
- Supporting event planning and coordination as needed.
- Oversee the day-to-day assignments and executions of 4 temp writers focused on product communications, including:
- Ongoing work on GFiber Voice - a key "keeper of the GFiber Voice."
- Balancing workload and projects for writers.
- Managing approval process - both reviewing but also understanding who are the key stakeholder and looping in additional approvers when necessary.
- Contributing to critical communications as a senior writer.
- Partner with product marketing, social marketing, and product strategy teams to broaden our communications about understanding internet drivers and optimizing network experience and performance.
At a minimum we'd like you to have:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Advertising or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience in PR, either in-house or with an agency, including building and pitching narratives to national and industry media, or a related field
- Experience in both writing and editing in a deadline focused environment.
- 2 years of experience in people management (including contractors, vendors, agencies).
It's preferred if you have:
- 5 years of experience as a PR, journalist, marketing, advertising, or creative writer.
- Experience writing conversational, engaging, and relatable copy for large-scale B2C technology brands across multiple platforms.
- Experience with lifestyle or experience-focused brands.
- Ability to work in and navigate cross-functional processes, and communicate varying points of view to peers, cross-functional stakeholders, and executive leaders.
- Ability to navigate in a changing and developing environment.
- A portfolio of original work, along with proven experience writing about technology that cuts through marketing noise and tech jargon clutter.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $106,000 - $155,000 + bonus + cash award + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
