Job Description

The Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics Division within the Department of Lab Medicine & Pathology has an immediate opening for a full-time genetic counselor position supporting molecular oncology testing. The molecular oncology GC functions in the clinical lab interpretive team, evaluating tumor-based next generation sequencing test results for cancer variant interpretation and report drafting. Other primary roles and responsibilities of the molecular-based laboratory genetic counselor include variant promotion of consistent test reporting standards, contribution to new test development and implementation, client support for external healthcare providers, and education of several rotating student groups (genetic counseling graduate students, medical residents, and fellows). This is a fully remote position.

Genetic counselors play an integral role in our clinical genetic testing laboratories. The genetic counselor hired into this position will work directly with an established team of eight oncology genetic counselors and variant scientists, within a larger work unit of over 50 telework lab GCs, variant scientists, and GC Assistants at Mayo Clinic. The lab genetic counselor position reports to a genetic counselor supervisor. Lab GCs at Mayo Clinic work closely with laboratory directors, pathologists, clinical and development lab personnel, and BioIT teams.

**Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic**

Master of Science or Master of Arts in Genetic Counseling granted by a genetic counseling program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) required. Professional knowledge of the rapidly changing principles and practice of medical, clinical, and laboratory genetics required. Must have effective oral and written presentation and communication skills, superior organizational skills and be able to work independently. Computer skills appropriate for laboratory and clinical case management necessary. ABGC Certification and licensure are required. A newly graduated individual, who will be licensed in Minnesota, is required to obtain ABGC certification and MN state licensure within 6 months of graduation. Any exceptions to this must be reviewed and approved by hiring manager and HR. Candidates are responsible for understanding licensure laws in their state of employment. Additional licenses, beyond state of employment, may be recommended in order to provide telehealth services. Obtaining license in state of residence where applicable is recommended if employee works remotely in a state other than their state of employment.
