The Global MES Team is a global PSG IT team committed to bringing the right digital solution to the shop floor for optimal manufacturing guided execution and reporting, electronic logbooks and checklists, with strategies to bring us closer to real-time batch release, improving data integrity, revenues and customer satisfaction. The Global Team supports multiple sites across the ThermoFisher network with the goal to implement our solution across more than 20 sites within the PSG division and beyond.

The Global MES Technical Architect will be an authoritative owner and driver of our software architecture. The primary focus will be our global team’s manufacturing execution system (MES), our core solutions, development of standards, and supporting the cultural change into digital transformation. This role will provide the candidate an excellent platform to grow and develop as the MES system footprint grows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a standardized architecture for MES projects that impact the digital application landscape, providing guidance and assistance to project teams in implementing the defined architectures.
  • Create and manage a globally qualified environment for proof of concepts and global libraries.
  • Lead focused proof of concepts for solution assessment, technology upgrades, and architecture roadmaps, driving the implementation and adoption of new technologies.
  • Promote technology/platform maturity by applying industry best practices, conducting technology watch, and performing due diligence.
  • Develop and evolve architectures across all portfolios, eliminating information silos, ensuring security-by-design, and meeting all operational metrics.
  • Mentor and coach developers to enhance the team's technical skills, improve development toolsets and methodologies.
  • Manage project lifecycle and ensure project delivery in an agile methodology.
  • Provide technical mentoring to developers and analysts.
  • Conduct code reviews to enforce guidelines and standards, continuously improving the quality for customers.

Build and support the software architecture vision: 25% of your time

  • Maintain and enhance the extendibility, quality, and maintainability of our product.
  • Share and align the architectural vision
  • Collaborate and allocate shared resources with other architects
  • Identify and prioritize technical risks and impediments

Improve the efficiency of the engineering team: 25% of your time

  • Stimulate expertise acquisition and knowledge dissemination
  • Evaluate the technical skills and knowledge of potential engineers
  • Support the project manager in resource and competencies development

Support the program vision for standardization: 50% of your time

  • Assist the product manager and product owner in evaluating the roadmap
  • Identify and implement opportunities for standardization
  • Create standard guidelines and playbooks that facilitate harmonious and faster implementation of solutions by sites and the global technical team
  • Identify technical and planning risks and dependencies in the product backlog

Other Tasks:

  • Managing SNOW tickets and CMDB corrections relevant to MES projects
  • Providing support and guidance to the technical team at different sites in configuring access rights and user profiles
  • Assisting and advising the technical team at various sites in configuring dispensing recipes
  • Creating and maintaining master data
  • Assisting and advising the technical team at different sites in configuring scales, rooms, work centers, and stations
  • Configuring equipment-related cleaning workflows for rooms and scales
  • Developing necessary procedures, work instructions, and other documentation as required by the business
  • Maintaining and supporting the MES system used for weighing and dispensing raw materials for production lines, including manufacturing calls and a sense of urgency for process improvement
  • Providing support and, if needed, performing system upgrades as part of a project delivery team (providing technical guidance, adhering to timelines, gathering requirements, designing and developing, testing, deploying, and providing hypercare support)
  • Developing and/or reviewing technical documentation (including but not limited to SOPs, URS, DS, WIs and guidelines, process modeling, and test scripts)

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing and supporting manufacturing execution systems, computerized automation systems, and networks.
  • Experience working on medium to large project implementations in the Life Sciences industry.
  • Experience with GxP applications and implementing Product Lifecycle Management.
  • Proficiency in applying the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and/or the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in designing business solutions using a combination of vendor solutions/products and in-house applications.
  • Proven ability to make architectural decisions, handle challenging projects, and address stakeholder concerns.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain successful relationships with project teams, technology communities, and internal/external partners.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience will also be considered.
  • Prior experience working on diverse and complex problems, requiring analysis of variable factors. Able to act independently with judgment within defined policies and objectives in the area of expertise/knowledge under general direction.
