VIVO is a young joint venture between Serco and Equans where we’re modernising the lived experiences of our armed forces. VIVO has grown rapidly over the last 2 years and is now close to £1bn turnover.

This is a key new role required to support this fast paced organisation ensuring that we build a strong foundation on which we can excel. The Head of Internal Audit will bring expertise in control, risk and control and will assess the adequacy of VIVO’s internal control environment.

Reporting directly to the Audit Committee, Internal Audit deliver a risk-based programme of audits across the breadth of the business including contracts, functions, systems and major programmes. The Head of Internal Audit has overall responsibility for designing the internal audit strategy, approach and risk-based audit plan aligned to the business’ operational delivery.

Key Accountabilities

  • To provide strategic direction on the provision of assurance across the organisation
  • Provide independent, reliable, and objective assurance on the overall effectiveness of risk management control and governance processes across the organisation.
  • Design and implement strategic direction and goals for internal audit across the organisation, including a risk-based annual audit plan to provide an independent assessment of the quality of internal controls and business processes.
  • Interface with the Audit Committee of the Board and the Executive Committee to provide information about the status and results from the audit plan.
  • Manage the effective and efficient delivery of internal audit plans and goals.
  • Monitor and challenge progress on the implementation of management action plans to ensure they are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Establish strong relationships at an operational level, providing guidance, challenge, and corrective action to the business, without preventing growth or inhibiting commercial performance.
  • Provide a cost-effective internal consultancy service to management in areas where there is an identified problem or high risk due to business change activity.
  • To undertake special projects or investigations at the specific request of executive management.
  • Accountable for the conduct and behaviour of people across the audit function, the Head of Internal Audit will set the tone from the top and ensure senior leaders and the wider team are in line with the expected behaviours.
  • Design and implement an appropriate operating model and team structure.

Essential Skills/ Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level
  • Accountancy qualification – ACA, ACCA or CIMA
  • Internal Audit Qualification - CIA
