Ion trap-based, Quantum Computer system level specification

NS

Location

NXP Semiconductors

Job Description

Quantum computers will force a new paradigm shift in many domains such as Healthcare, Security, Agriculture etc. etc.

So far, most quantum computers have to operate close to the absolute minimum temperature (0 Kelvin). This poses challenges on the electronic components that need to be integrated close to the actual quantum processor, and therefore have to operate at very low temperature. Also, to enable sufficient gate fidelity of the qubits in the quantum processor, a good understanding of the requirements on the electronics needed to operate the quantum processor is key.

This assignment:

  • Create system overview of an ion trap based quantum computer, including all components (ion trap, lasers, control electronics, ion read-out, etc.)
  • Comparing the physical layer of different ion trap based quantum computers, and work towards requirements for the electronics.
  • Compare and benchmark different physical layers of different (ion trap based) quantum computers

Deliverables:

  • Benchmark of different quantum computer architectures
  • Specification document of a physical layer of an ion trap based quantum computer
