Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but we engage our Contractors and Freelancers all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contractor or Freelancer at Canva, you can work fully remotely in the country outlined above, meaning you have ultimate flexibility. Wherever works for you, works for us.

What you’d be doing in this role

Pixabay is a fast-growing stock media company made up of a talented community of artists, producers and creators from all around the world. We are looking for a Community Manager to join our marketing, content and community team, to proactively ideate and implement activities to grow and engage the Pixabay creator community (namely our global photography community and German creator community). This is a part-time (20 hours per week), 12-month opportunity.

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Community Growth and Engagement:
    • Proactive engagement and outreach to existing and potential creators on social media, online forums, and in your own photography and creative networks.
    • Host events and activations such as meet-ups, workshops, interviews, etc. (online and in-person).
    • Host and promote contests for creators to submit media to.
    • Monitor conversations and respond to the Pixabay community on our forum and social media channels.
  • Content Creation:
    • Discussion starters and creative prompts in the Pixabay forum and social media.
    • Social media content creation to promote your community initiatives.
    • Ideation, research, and copywriting for blogs, sharing your photography knowledge.
  • Communication:
    • Communicate product updates to our community on the forum and blog, including translations from English to German.
    • Provide feedback from the community to the Pixabay team.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage prize stocktake, supplier agency relationship, and rewarding community.
    • Project management using Airtable and Google sheets.

You're probably a match if

  • You are fluent in German and English (and deep understanding of German culture)
  • You are skilled in photography (plus videography is a bonus) and able to offer technical advice/feedback to our creative community
  • You have excellent attention to detail
  • You have a creative eye and experience with producing copy and visual assets
  • You are a strong communicator - frequent, reliable, clear communications
  • You enjoy engaging with and helping people
  • You are self-directed, proactive and reliable - takes initiative, problem solves, follows through
  • You are happy to work remotely and connect with a global team online
  • You are motivated to grow our Pixabay community

About the team

In 2019 Canva acquired one of the world’s biggest free stock content sites - Pixabay. We have tens of millions of visitors downloading our free content (images, videos and audio) that are supplied by our talented and generous global community. Pixabay operates as a standalone platform with over 4.4 million free images, videos, vectors and music. This content is ingested into Canva, available for everyone to use and supports Canva’s growing user base.

Other stuff to know

We make hiring decisions to engage contractors based on your experience, skills and passion. When you signify interest in the Project, please tell us the pronouns you use and any reasonable adjustments you may need during the contractor-accreditation interview process.

Please note that contractor-accreditation meetings are conducted virtually.

We celebrate all types of skills and backgrounds at Canva so even if you don’t feel like your skills quite match what’s listed above - we still want to hear from you!
