DOCS Health is a leading healthcare company seeking a skilled and experienced Reviewing Physician to join our team. This is a remote independent contractor position requiring the review and provision of medical opinions for pre-employment and post-employment exams within Homeland Security Programs. As a Reviewing Physician, you will be responsible for reviewing medical exam results and medical treatment records to determine if applicants and employees are in compliance with Medical Standards. This role is required to collaborate with our RN Case Manager(s) to provide expert opinions and recommendations based on your clinical expertise. The position does require flexibility with schedule to meet last minute deadlines.

Requirements
  • Primary Reviewing Physician shall be licensed in any U.S., Canadian, or Mexican jurisdiction and currently Board-certified in Occupational Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
  • Experience in performing reviews of medical examinations to determine if a selectee or employee meets an agency’s medical standards or is medically qualified under federal regulatory standards such as Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration medical standards or the Federal Aviation Administration’s medical standards for Airline Transport Pilots.
  • Demonstrate an ability to clearly articulate the type of additional medical documentation needed to further evaluate the risk associated with a medical condition and its impact on the safe and effective performance of the job.
  • Well versed in federal regulations, case law, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidance regarding the type of medical information that can be required in order to provide sufficient evidence that a past or current medical condition presents no increased risk of causing a sudden or subtle, partial or total, incapacitation presenting a hazard, or risk, to the employee, coworker, or the mission of the Agency.

Responsibilities:

  • Possess an extensive knowledge of the various law enforcement and government positions' medical guidelines/standards, physical requirements, critical tasks, as well as the positions' environmental hazards and stressors.
  • Review completed examination results and/or any medical documentation/treatment records to determine if an applicant is medically suitable for the position and render a type-written medical opinion supporting the agency’s medical standards as to whether the individual meets the medical requirements of the position.
  • Ensure that the information obtained from the medical examination, the medical findings, conclusions, and recommendations are consistent with generally accepted professional guidelines.
  • Provide an opinion as to the selectee’s medical qualification for the position which shall address a description of current health status, stability of condition, and the rationale for the recommendation. When applicable, specify what additional medical documentation is needed to clarify the status of a particular medical condition(s).
  • Write a concise response on how the diagnosis (may be multiple diagnoses) in question are stable and qualify the selectee as meeting the medical standard. If after the review the selectee still does not meet the medical standard, the file will then be considered a tertiary review consultation with additional medical information/treatment records to review.
  • Review final Independent Medical Exam (IME) Reports provided by specialists, including all exam and lab results, perform a quality assurance review to determine whether the IME specialist properly answered the Agency’s questions and whether the recommendations and opinions are sufficiently supported.
