This position is expected to act as a subject matter expert in conducting legal compliance investigations involving significant and complex allegations, including allegations related to fraud, anti-corruption, and other related concerns involving employee or third-party misconduct. Although this position will review ethics and compliance-related concerns across the globe, it is expected that this function will act as the primary lead running investigation-related matters arising out of Red Hat’s operations in both the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and APAC (Asia Pacific) regions. This includes delegating tasks and providing guidance, support, and oversight, as needed, to other individuals supporting the investigations function. Accordingly, this role is ideal for a candidate with substantial prior experience in managing corporate internal compliance investigations. Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a significant plus. The successful candidate will be one who enjoys deciphering complex factual scenarios, excels at integrating sound legal and business judgment, and has an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and constantly-evolving technology and business landscape.

Red Hat prides itself on collaboration, transparency, and integrity and is poised for continued growth as the world's leader in enterprise open source solutions. In this role, you will join a global team of best-in-class legal professionals to advance and support Red Hat’s growth strategy and governance around the globe.

What you will do

  • Conduct, manage, direct, and support internal investigations related to allegations of illegal, unethical, or other improper conduct involving employees, partners (or other third parties) from start to finish, including analyzing incoming factual allegations, identifying and alerting appropriate internal and external stakeholders, gathering and reviewing relevant information, interviewing witnesses, and identifying any remediation measures

  • Document investigations in a clear and accurate manner and prepare reports of investigation and/or briefings to leadership on significant matters

  • Manage multiple investigations concurrently, which includes effectively delegating tasks, overseeing adherence to investigation processes, and leading other individuals that are providing direct support to the investigations function

  • Coordinate with various stakeholders across Red Hat, including management and HR, in order to coordinate and implement remediation measures and other business improvements

  • Issue spot, conduct trend analysis, and assist with providing reporting and analytics related to legal compliance investigations and other related compliance data

  • Develop a solid network of relationships inside and outside of the organization to support the objectives of the Legal Compliance & Ethics Team and the Legal Investigations Team.

  • Interact with Red Hat associates and IBM personnel in a way that enhances and promotes Red Hat’s culture of compliance

  • Engage and manage outside legal counsel, as appropriate, including to opine on potential local civil or criminal legal issues for international matters

  • Lead or support other Red Hat ethics and compliance initiatives, as needed

  • Provide support to the Litigation Team, as needed, including managing employment-related litigation, resolving pre-litigation claims, and mitigating risk of future claims

What you will bring

  • Qualified to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, with significant experience managing and conducting corporate internal investigations; familiarity with technology industry, channel sales models, and accounting is a plus

  • Bilingual or multilingual language skills, as well as international legal experience, are a big plus (with an emphasis on fluency in Mandarin Chinese)

  • Exceptional independent judgment and discretion in determining next steps and actions related to investigations, litigations, and other compliance matters of significance

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and strong analytical abilities demonstrated through your work experience

  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and handle a diverse and demanding workload in a fast-paced environment
