Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a candidate to assist the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Protected Resources (OPR) with the implementation of

OPR’s Climate Initiative activities in order to increase national and regional climate readiness for protected species management under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA). OAI supplies personnel support services on contract to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species. DUTIES:

Tasks will include:

  • Assist with issuing announcement for internal funding opportunities, coordinate internal review of proposals, track progress reports, provide reporting as needed, and liaise with OPR Board Chairs and funding decision makers.
  • Lead coordination and execution of the project “Adapting how we make decisions under the ESA and MMPA in a climate change future with shifting ecosystem baselines”.
  • Engage and collaborate with OPR and field off/center staff to implement the PR Climate Initiative Activities.
  • Research and write OPR climate communication materials such as web feature stories.
  • Develop and draft stories/materials for OPR & Climate Story Maps.

Start Date: ASAP

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary: $34.00 to $38.00 per hour.

Location: Remote.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher, from an accredited college or university with a major directly related in a field of study. Three (3) years of experience in related field to the stated duties, or combination of education and experience totaling seven (7) years. Education beyond Bachelor’s degree can be substituted for experience.
  • Experience providing substantive and administrative support during thedevelopment of, preparation for, and execution of meetings, presentations, testimony, roundtables, hearings, or conferences, including materials collection and/or development and ensuring quality control, completeness and consistency.
  • Experience tracking activities and tasks that result from meeting participation or incoming requests, as well as proactively monitoring action items, researching needed information, and managing due dates.
  • Ability to work well with people in all levels of an organization, staff, management, and leadership.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and speech, especially the ability to edit and distill key points. Ability to be well organized and handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Subject matter expertise and knowledge of the ESA and MMPA for operational or research programs and activities in the coastal and marine environment is required.
  • Ability to work independently, reliable, self-starter, self-motivated and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to isolate and define critical conditions and problems within a program or part of a project in order to determine the environmental impact of various activities.
  • Skill in oral and written communication in order to develop and present scientific assessments and analyses.
  • Knowledge of NMFS regulatory, research and management activities
  • Knowledge of NOAA operational and research activities
