Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)

The SSD team at College Board is a close knit, dedicated team of 28 people with a passion for helping disabled test-takers from around the world receive appropriate accommodations on College Board tests. The team is committed to providing exceptional decision making, education, and outreach to support test-takers, school personnel, and family members/guardians. We pride ourselves on being thorough and knowledgeable by staying current in the field. We also work closely with various College Board teams including but not limited to ACO (Accessibility Compliance Office), AP, SAT Suite of Assessments, and our State and District Partners.

About the Opportunity  -

You will be instrumental in College Board’s mission to clear a path for all students to own their future. College Board provides accommodations to disabled test-takers so they can demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Your role will ensure that College Board exams accurately reflect the test-taker’s aptitude/achievement rather than their disability.

As an SSD Specialist, you will provide overall support for a variety of activities related to the provision of effective SSD Program services to students and schools/school districts.  Key responsibilities include conducting administrative review of requests for testing accommodations, communicating with school and district personnel (up through top administrators) and parents, administration of SSD databases, and working with external vendors and consultants. 

In this role you will:

Administrative Review of Accommodation Requests (50%)

  • Review requests for testing accommodations from students with physical, medical and/or visual disabilities to determine if they meet SSD standards. Conduct initial review of basic requests for testing accommodations and process or escalate as appropriate.

  • Examples of requests you’ll review may include:(1) Requests blind or legally blind students for braille, large print, or assistive technology; (2) Requests from students with diabetes for permission to test blood sugar;and (3) Requests from physically impaired students for wheelchair access, a scribe, or extended time.

  • Assist as needed with requests for temporary supports, such as support for a student with a broken wrist.

Customer Service, Outreach and Implementation (20%)

  • Correspond with customers, including schools, families, and school personnel and vendors to answer questions regarding the testing accommodations, College Board accommodations request processand SSD portal access.

  • Assist SSD Clinical staffand conduct outreach to customers to obtain information related to processing of accommodations.

  • Provide information to testing programs and participate in testing programs’ initiatives.

Administration of SSD Databases (30%)

  • Process requests for access to SSD Online, College Board’s accommodations request platform. Assist new coordinators with questions/concerns about the process.

  • Work with technology vendors to respond and resolve issues related to systems and cases.

  • Assist external consultants with access to systems and cases.

  • Perform a variety of computer-based functions such asupdating data in SSD Online, related databases and the SSD website.

  • Perform special assignments/projects and perform a wide array of administrative tasks relating to the maintenance and improvement of SSD processes.Assist managers, directors, senior directors, and others with various program related activities.

About You

  • Two or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience working in an educational environment is preferred. 

  • Deep understanding of the education environment, including familiarity with special education services, preferred.

  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft office applications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

  • Ability to effectively handle multiple situations simultaneously and effectively

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required

  • Authorization to work in the USA for any employer

About Our Process

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $40,000 to $65,000.College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.
