Our mission is to make payments safer and easier for everyone. We started with a consumer product (privacy.com) that helps people spend more safely using virtual payment cards. Then we launched a simple, modern API to make our payment and card issuing infrastructure available to other startups, fintechs, and brands. Today, that infrastructure is known as Lithic, and it powers billions of dollars in payments for some of the most innovative companies in the world.

Lithic is a remote-first company and has a distributed team with an office in New York. That means that if you want to work remotely, you can! If you want to drop by the office or work fully in-person, you can do that, too! We’ve raised $100M+ from top-tier investors including Index, Bessemer, Stripes, and Tusk Venture Partners, with a recent Series C that will help us scale.

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for setting the strategic and technical direction for Lithic’s sister company, Privacy.com. You’ll be responsible for understanding the right tradeoff between platforms and product work and communicating the strategy transparently to the teams and to the leadership. You will be working in a highly visible and evolving space, and will help shape the product direction by working closely with cross-functional partners from Product, Design, Customer Support, and Operations.

You will also lead a group of talented engineers and help the team to deliver significant business impact given the ambitious product vision we’re building towards. As a leader, you measure your success based on the strength of your team, facilitating a culture of ownership, fostering career growth and development, and enhancing developer productivity and happiness. You make decisions thoughtfully and always consider implications, outcomes, and downstream effects. What You'll Do:

  • Lead a team of talented engineers who like to ship code and tackle hard engineering problems
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals
  • Own your team’s deliverables and ensure we continue to ship scalable, highly-available products that delight Privacy customers
  • Help your team build relationships across functions with Product, Design, Customer Support, Ops or other teams to ensure Privacy’s continuing success
  • Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization
  • Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly
  • Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s code, architecture, and processes
  • Work closely with the recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds

What You Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience with frontend, mobile, backend engineering, with at least 3+ years of management experience
  • Experience launching consumer facing products and iterating through data-driven experimentation
  • Strong technical foundation in web, mobile, or cross-platform engineering
  • Enthusiasm for helping people grow their skills and reach the next level
  • Project management and communication skills that bring the team together and drive projects to a successful outcome
  • Experience balancing competing priorities and input from many different teams
  • Empathy and a focus on understanding the impacts of your decisions on others
  • Openness to new ideas and the ability to lead by influence and clear reasoning rather than authority
  • Bonus points for experience leading a distributed team

Base salary range for US candidates: $220,000 - $270,000
