Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology (ASET) division, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sr. Systems Administrator to join our Cloud Operations team. As a Sr. Systems Administrator, you will play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of our VMware infrastructure and AWS Cloud environments. You will be responsible for maintaining system availability, security, Active Directory, and backup processes for both on-premise and cloud infrastructures.

Job Duties:
  • Deploy and manage workloads in Azure or AWS cloud environments, utilizing services such as EC2, S3, VPC, Direct Connect, ElastiCache, NAT Gateways, and RDS
  • Manage and maintain the State Agency's public and private cloud infrastructures, including virtual cloud operations and Direct Connect network management
  • Perform system administration tasks on Windows and Linux-based operating systems
  • Proactively identify and remediate system vulnerabilities on both Windows and Linux platforms
  • Ensure the availability, performance optimization, and efficient utilization of cloud and hyper-converged infrastructures
  • Maintain and enforce security best practices, including firewall management, Security Group configurations, and Active Directory administration
  • Develop, run, and maintain scripts to automate tasks and improve efficiency using PowerShell, CLI, JSON, Python, and other relevant languages
  • Meticulously document and maintain configuration and process information
  • Provide guidance, assistance, training, and education to agencies adopting the State's Cloud First Strategy initiatives
  • Effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing
  • Actively collaborate with team members and other departments
  • Multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic environment while meeting deliverables
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Operating Systems: Deep understanding of Windows Server and Linux environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Database Fundamentals: Basic knowledge of MS SQL Server
  • IT Service Management: Solid understanding of ITIL Service processes and escalation management
  • Networking: Solid understanding of networking concepts including OSI network layers and TCP/IP

Skills in:

  • Cloud Computing: Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS or Azure
  • Active Directory: Strong knowledge of Active Directory services
  • System Monitoring: Experience with system monitoring tools and techniques
  • Virtualization: Experience with VMware virtualization platforms
  • Scripting: Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, Lambda, CLI, and JSON
  • Containers (Preferred): Experience with micro-services or container technologies is a plus

Abilities to:

  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
  • Communication: Ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor's degree plus 5 or more years of experience in systems administration (or equivalent experience)

Additionally, the following certifications are a plus

  • AWS
  • AZURE
  • ITIL
  • Linux
  • VMware (VCP)
  • Windows (MCSE, MCP,MCSA)
  • CCNA/CCNP
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Background and reference check, including state and federal criminal records fingerprint check
