About the Role:
The State Communications Director will report to and work closely with the Executive Vice President of Communications to lead an organizational communications strategy for the state and cross-state-driven work of All Voting is Local. The State Communications Director will manage up to three regional communications managers. This is a remote position.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversees the strategy development for All Voting’s state communications in our 8 states.
  • Supports regional communications managers to build successful campaigns in their states.
  • Identify communication opportunities and trends for cross-state collaboration.
  • Regularly communicate with EVP, Communications and National Communications Manager to identify national media opportunities happening at the state level.
  • Coordinates closely with co-directors of states, staying plugged into state programmatic goals at the weekly, monthly, and yearly levels to effectively manage state communications projects that communications managers own, help drive persuasive narratives and deliver communications solutions.
  • Seeks opportunities to elevate state communications work to national and cross-state audiences through earned and paid media campaigns, partnerships and with influencers.
  • Oversees and manages state media relations operations by developing and maintaining positive working relationships with targeted online, print, and broadcast journalists and other influencers.
  • Manages the drafting and editing process of press releases and media advisories, speeches, and other public-facing communications for state communications.
  • Identifies and coordinates state rapid response opportunities that further the campaign’s goals.
  • Develop a state and cross state communications plans.
What You Will Bring:
  • 10 years of professional communications experience..
  • Experience working in a multi-state organization.
  • Experience working with national and local media, including pitching stories, organizing and coordinating public media availabilities, and speaking on-the-record.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Must be able to juggle multiple projects across states and issue areas and be adept at rapid response.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote work environment.
  • Interest in, and general knowledge of, voting rights issues or elections, programs, and constituencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • 3 years of previous management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in voting rights/democracy/advocacy communications with a track record of earned media and messaging.

This position is currently remote.

Salary Range: $135,000 - $160,038
