Business Data Analyst

Position Summary:
As part of Bentley’s Data organization, the Analytics Advancement team aligns with Bentley’s Business Units to provide data advocacy as well as data-driven insights and solutions to support their business objectives and strategies. We are looking for a Business Data Analyst to align with our Finance Business Unit. The Business Data Analyst is responsible for ongoing engagement with Finance BU personnel and data practitioners at multiple levels to understand their data needs, define and document data requirements, develop and deliver reports and analysis. The Business Data Analyst acts as the data liaison and advocate to the Business Unit, communicating the value and role of data in business terms and identifying opportunities for data-informed innovation.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Fosters ongoing engagement with BU personnel at multiple levels, including managers, directors, and subject matter experts.
- Becomes an expert on the data content, sources, and flows used by the aligned BU, and maintains up-to-date knowledge of the BU's goals, challenges, and processes
- Describes the value, role, and purpose of data in business terms, using clear and concise language and relevant examples
- Defines and documents data requirements from the aligned BU, translating business needs into technical specifications and ensuring alignment with data standards and best practices
- Develops, tests, and delivers reports and analysis using various tools and platforms (with support from Report Developers as-needed), ensuring accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of data products
- Coordinates with the Data Intelligence team to maintain and expand standardized data definitions and governance, and to resolve any data quality or availability issues
- Advocates for the BU within the Data team, sharing feedback, insights, and suggestions for data improvement and enhancement
What You Bring to The Team:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, statistics, computer science, information systems) or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of experience in data analysis, reporting, or related roles
- Proven experience in interpreting data and synthesizing key business insights across multiple data sets. Must be detail oriented and focused on delivering high quality work.
- Proficient in SQL and Excel, and familiar with other data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, R, Python)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into meaningful and actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and present data in a clear and compelling manner
- Knowledgeable and curious about the business domain and industry trends, and able to identify and communicate data opportunities and challenges
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks based on business needs and deadlines
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer. The role requires communication with managers, peers and other colleagues of the company in person, and by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling and meeting functions.
- This role does not require travel.
