Department Overview:

The Business Study Cooperative (BSC) is an inclusive and collaborative learning environment for students who are looking for support and practice with the mathematical tools and methods used in core business courses. This space is designed to support learning, and we encourage students to think of it as open study hours. At the BSC we are all here to help each other and engage in collaborative problem solving. We ask that students come if they have questions they’d like to discuss, would like to form a study group, or would like to talk through the course material. We encourage students to make visiting the Study Cooperative part of their studying routine.

The Business Study Cooperative (BSC) will be providing support for AIS 100, AIS 211, GB 306, GB 307, and FIN 300 from 4:00-6:00 pm Monday-Thursday on the second floor of the Learning Commons, 2210M/N. Student staff will be available to provide drop-in group tutoring for those courses during that time. Additionally, we will continue supporting students one-on-one both during our 4:00-6:00 pm hours and by request.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$23.00

Qualifications:

-Must be located in the United States (international students are welcome to apply, but we cannot hire students who are residing in another country)
-Must be able to work in person in Grainger Hall
-Must have earned at least an AB in the course and/or equivalent course(s) you wish to support
-AIS 100 (Introductory Financial Accounting), AIS 211 (Introductory Managerial Accounting), GB 306 (Business Analytics I), GB 307 (Business Analytics II), FIN 300 (Introduction to Finance)
-Overall GPA of at least 3.25 (3.5 GPA + Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Teaching or tutoring experience desired
    -Interest in working with students from various backgrounds
    -Ability to support multiple courses prioritized

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Work in 1:1 and small group tutoring with students
    -Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
    -Serve as a leader/guide for undergraduate peer mentors as needed
    -Work under the supervision of the BSC Coordinator
    -Complete training for the position (both in person and asynchronous) in order to become certified as a Level 1 Tutor through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Training hours will be compensated
    -Maintain regular hours for tutoring. Strong candidates will have various availability within these timeframes: Monday - Thursday, 4:00-6:00 pm

Physical Demands:

Must be able to meet with students in person for one-on-one and small group tutoring in-person
