The Director of Credit Risk Operations will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the operational aspects of Marqeta’s credit programs. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of credit solutions to our customers. The successful candidate will have a strong background in credit operations, process optimization, and team leadership within the fintech or financial services industry.

What You'll Do

  • Operational Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive operational strategy for our credit programs, aligned with company goals and objectives.
  • Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to streamline and improve credit program operations while mitigating risk.
  • Portfolio Analysis: Analyze credit performance metrics, trends, and key risk indicators to identify areas of opportunity and concern.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce quality assurance standards and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance throughout the credit lifecycle.
  • Risk Management: Collaborate with risk management and compliance teams to mitigate operational risks and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Product Development: Support the Credit Product and Technology teams by identifying elements and/or issues during product development that require oversight.
  • Risk Monitoring and Reporting: Implement robust monitoring processes to track credit exposures, delinquencies, and portfolio quality, and prepare regular reports for senior management and regulatory authorities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing credit risk management and consumer lending practices.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Implement robust monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and service level agreements (SLAs). Provide regular updates to senior management on operational performance and initiatives.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with third-party vendors, service providers, and partners involved in credit program operations. Ensure alignment with contractual agreements, performance standards, and service level expectations.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of credit operations professionals. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS Finance) preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in credit risk management, preferably in the financial services or fintech industry, with a track record of progressive leadership and achievement.
  • Deep expertise in credit risk principles, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, with a focus on consumer lending and underwriting practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in statistical modeling, data analysis, and risk assessment techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Proven track record of effectively managing teams and fostering a culture of operational excellence.
  • Sound judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:

  • National: $153,150 - $204,200
  • Premium: $172,350 - $229,800
  • Premium Plus: $191,475 - $255,300
