Director of Government Relations, Marsh McLennan, Pacific

What can you expect?

An exciting newly created opportunity has become available for an experienced Government Relations professional to join Marsh McLennan in the Pacific Region. Reporting to the Global Head of Government Relations, you will sit within Marsh McLennan’s Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs (LCPA) Department and work closely with the company’s business leadership in the region. In this highly visible position, you will be responsible for managing a government relations portfolio across Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji.

As the Company’s ambassador, you will establish relationships with policymakers, manage engagement with trade bodies, and strike alliances with corporate partners in the Pacific and globally. The role will see you develop and define Marsh McLennan’s public policy interests and devise strategies to advance these interests with regional policymakers. Key priorities include policies related to multi-national corporation tax, superannuation and retirement income products, financial advice regulation and the protection gap for wildfire, flooding and windstorm as well as cyber and terrorism risks.

We will count on you to:

  • Identify the public policy interests and advocacy needs of Marsh McLennan and its businesses in the Pacific.

  • Monitor the public policy and regulatory environment to anticipate threats and opportunities.

  • Identify relevant Company expertise to devise innovative policy proposals.

  • Develop strategic relationships with policymakers, industry representatives, interest groups, regulators, and key stakeholders.

  • Seek opportunities to raise the Company's profile through high-level meetings, media, and public events such as testimony before government bodies.

  • Represent and coordinate Company engagement with trade associations and partners.

  • Help prepare Company leadership for meetings, events, and public statements.

  • Respond to the business and client requests for government and regulatory relations support.

  • Meet with and educate colleagues and clients about Government Relations capabilities.

  • Support the Global Government Relations team around the world to devise advocacy strategies.

What you need to have:

  • A minimum of 6 years’ relevant professional experience, including lobbying management, financial services sector knowledge, and/or political experience.

  • Strong project management skills, with great attention to detail, excellent writing ability, and a natural inclination for collaboration.

  • A proven ability to build a strong network of contacts.
