Fetch is an equal employment opportunity employer.

Location:

  • This is a remote position in the United States. While there are no regular in-office mandates, candidates must be willing to travel to any of our existing office locations, depending on client needs.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This role will report directly to the General Counsel and work closely with the Chief People Officer. The role focuses on providing legal counsel related to employment matters, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws, and supporting HR and management in handling complex employment-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employment Law Compliance: Advise on employment law issues, including wage and hour laws, discrimination, harassment, employee classifications, leaves of absence, and workplace safety.
  • Legal Counseling: Provide day-to-day legal support and strategic advice to HR and management regarding employment-related issues, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Drafting & Reviewing Policies: Develop, review, and update employment policies, handbooks, and other documentation to ensure compliance with the latest labor laws and regulations.
  • Manage External Counsel: To the extent necessary, manage various employment external counsel to a budget and desired solution.
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Assist in managing employment-related disputes, including responding to complaints, handling pre-litigation matters, and working with external counsel on any employment litigation or regulatory investigations.
  • Investigations: Conduct internal investigations into claims of employee misconduct, discrimination, harassment, or other workplace complaints.
  • Training & Education: Partner with HR to provide training on employment law topics, including anti-discrimination, workplace harassment, wage and hour regulations, and compliance.
  • Contract Drafting & Negotiations: Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, severance agreements, non-compete agreements, and other employment-related documents.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks related to employment practices while promoting fair treatment and legal compliance across the organization.
  • Representation: Represent the company in employment-related hearings, negotiations, and meetings with external bodies such as regulatory agencies or arbitrators.

We know we’re both succeeding when:

In a year, the successful candidate will fully own their projects from start to finish and pride themselves on their ability to counsel their stakeholders effectively. You will have educated more junior colleagues at the speed of business to get them to a place of self-reliance. You will have ownership over the employment legal function and built inroads into other departments, as well as relationships and trust with key stakeholders. You will have developed an understanding of the company's risk tolerance and are guiding in line with that tolerance.

The ideal candidate:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in a US state.
  • 4+ years of experience practicing employment law, either at a law firm or in-house, with significant exposure to labor law and human resources issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII).
  • Experience conducting investigations and managing employment litigation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with HR, management, and external counsel.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior in-house counsel experience or understanding of the culture of working at a tech company vs. a law firm.
  • Experience working with organizations with distributed workforces.
  • Familiarity with alternative dispute resolution methods.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and lead stakeholders to a desired outcome.
  • Ability and desire to work with various executives.
  • Good sense of humor and relaxed attitude joining a tight-knit small team.

Compensation:
