Purpose of Position
The Institutional Research Data Analyst is primarily responsible for producing regular reports for internal and external constituents , fulfilling ad hoc data requests, and making regularly requested data available to end users on demand through interactive reports and dashboards. The Institutional Research Data Analyst provides direct customer service, interacting regularly with employees from a variety of academic and administrative areas at UND to clarify information needs and ensure a positive data-user experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responds to internal and external ad hoc requests with accuracy and efficiency.
- Gathers, organizes, maintains, and updates information for federal, state, local, and institutional reports, ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of the data obtained and submitted.
- Works with curated and raw data to create prepared datasets for analysis and reporting for longitudinal studies and supporting informed decision making.
- Analyzes, interprets, and presents data related to student recruitment and admissions, enrollment, retention, course success, transfer, program effectiveness, advancement, employee and resource allocation to faculty, staff, and University leadership for decision-making purposes.
- Constructs effective data displays, including tables, graphics, and reports/dashboards to communicate key points for succinct and meaningful consumption.
- Supports undergraduate and graduate student success through creation and maintenance of retention, continuation, and graduation reports.
- Extract and transform data from curated databases and other sources to create reports.
- Develop, maintain, and refresh reports, including dashboard reports throughout the year.
- Prepare status reports, which may include daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and special project status reporting.
- Assists with university-wide surveys and reporting including
- Running reports, problem solving, verifying data and dissemination to appropriate areas.
- Provide consultation and data support for obtaining/maintaining reports for retention, enrollment, and reporting efforts (e.g., extracting data for surveys, assisting with analysis, preparing various tables/graphs).
- Data Governance and Data Integrity
- Assists with training institutional constituents on use of interactive data tools produced by University Analytics & Planning.
- Assist with development and maintenance of data dictionary and documenting standard procedures
- Assists with the production of various communications/publications on the University Analytics & Planning website.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Education/Educational Research, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related field with significant coursework in research methods and statistical analysis.
- One year of responsible research, analysis, and report presentation experience. Includes part-time/internship/graduate TA work. Education may be counted in lieu of work experience.
- 1+ years experience in institutional research or similar setting (primarily educational research)
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Access, Power Point and Word, or equivalent. Experience in extracting data from relational databases.
- Experience using SAS, SQL, R, or other reporting/data extraction software.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Bl data visualization development and use
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in data analytics, social sciences, statistics, or related field.
- Three years of responsible research, analysis, and report presentation experience, preferably in higher education.
