The Outreach Team is a leader in providing innovative campaign services to nonprofits and political campaigns. Specializing in managing large-scale voter contact initiatives, we are committed to fostering civic engagement and promoting positive change. This year, we are excited to expand our reach by running numerous voter contact canvass offices across the country, aiming to make significant impacts in key areas.

This is a full-time position for an experienced campaign and people manager who loves working on social change campaigns. At The Outreach Team, the Roving Director Trainer is expected to collaborate closely with multiple Project Directorsto swiftly address and train new and experienced director staff within our field offices.You will be a strong, detail-oriented resource for the Project Director team as each project gears up and as we move closer to November. As an experienced staff manager, problem-solver and strategic thinker, your main objective is to ensure our canvassing operations run efficiently and effectively, achieving ambitious growth targets and maximizing our on-ground impact. We’re seeking a candidate who has experience managing or coordinating diverse teams, driving goals, implementing good quality control practices, and thinking creatively and strategically to solve problems. This job may be for you if you excel at running large-scale social change campaigns with urgent deadlines and thrive in new environments.

The position is primarily on the road, but will have some remote work from your home base when you are in between field assignments.You should expect to work 40-60 hours per week depending on how close to elections or other deadlines your project is. Travel for site visits will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run trainings with canvass directors when they are just starting or switching to new processes or types of outreach.
  • Create Canvass Director training materials alongside the Project Directors and co-facilitate in-person Director Trainings and advanced trainings.
  • Collaborate closely with multiple Project Directors as they are the bottom line of their respective projects.
  • Work directly on-site at various locations, providing hands-on support and guidance to the Lead Director and canvassing teams.
  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to boost canvasser recruitment, enhance shift performance metrics (e.g., knocks per shift, contacts per shift), and optimize time spent on turf.
  • Collaborate with local teams to foster a proactive, solution-oriented environment, ensuring all staff are aligned with campaign goals and equipped to meet daily targets.
  • Rapidly diagnose and resolve critical challenges within field offices, focusing on issues such as recruitment shortfalls, canvasser performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain a team culture that centers on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
  • Treat staff with empathy and respect, and ensure the managers you work with do the same
  • Maintain high-performance standards and provide ongoing and immediate feedback
  • Get on the ground, completing site visits, and leading by example to drive goals
  • Supporting directors as they build out strong practices in line with the campaign model and create a fun and equitable office culture for canvassers.

Qualifications (the must-haves)

  • Proven experience in campaign management, field operations, or a similar role within political campaigns or nonprofit sectors.
  • Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to quickly understand and diagnose issues impacting campaign performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with a capacity to motivate and inspire teams under high-pressure scenarios.
  • Ability to travel frequently and adapt to varying field environments.
  • Passionate commitment to civic engagement and a deep understanding of grassroots organizing.
  • A track record of results, hitting goals, and meeting benchmarks
  • A willingness to perpetually expand your knowledge of equity and justice and apply it to your work

How to Apply

This is a salaried position with a range of $1558 - $1731/wk, depending on experience, plus an additional performance-based bonus at the end of every project. We offer benefits, including fully paid health care, vacation, and sick days. The person in this role will also have a company credit to use for business-related expenses while traveling.
