Department Overview:
The Kalin Primate Research Lab in Department of Psychiatry is dedicated to understanding the molecular and neural circuit alterations that underlie extreme AT. Using methods including intraoperative MRI for precise targeting of AT-related brain structures and multimodal brain imaging similar to that used in human studies, we are exploring the basic mechanisms that underlie primate anxiety.Anticipated Start Date:

Students will be expected to work part time (~10 hours/week) during the school year, and, depending on their schedule, part-time to full-time during the spring, summer and winter breaks. Because of this, students with large blocks of available time are preferred AND Summer Availability is a MUST. Average working hours are Monday through Friday 7:00AM to 6:00PM. Occasional weekend, Holiday, early morning and late evening work is required.Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

4Qualifications:
Current UW-Madison undergraduate student, ideally Freshman or Sophomore status.Interest in the study of biological basis of fear and anxiety in rhesus macaques.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Comfortable working with animals, especially non human primates (rhesus macaques).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Basic understanding of biological and experimental procedures.
Ability to accurately record and organize data.
Willingness to learn new skills such as experimental studies and animal handling.
Good communication skills and teamwork orientation.
Highly motivated to learn.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Duties include handling and transporting non human primates (rhesus macaques), study setup, behavioral observations, data analysis, records keeping, and animal monitoring. This unique job provides an excellent opportunity to gain research experience in a fast paced, world-class laboratory.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift 40 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
