The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Production Editor supporting our National Center office that is located in Dallas, TX. This role can be home based.
The Production Editor is responsible for the editorial quality of training products and related materials developed by Healthcare Business Solutions Programs. Distributed globally in print and various electronic formats, these products provide training in cardiac arrest, first aid, stroke, and other emergencies and generate revenue to support the American Heart Association’s mission.

Responsibilities
- Copyedits, proofreads, formats, cross-checks information, and accurately incorporates reviewers' changes in training products in all media, as well as related materials such as exams, marketing collateral, training network communications, and scientific articles
- Follows checklists, style guides, process documents, graphic design specifications, and other quality tools; provides updates and improvements to quality tools as needed
- Reviews work of editorial contractors and media developers and provides feedback
- Communicates with internal and external project team members to ensure thorough and efficient editorial reviews
- Performs usability testing in online courses, DVDs, apps, and websites
- Maintains organized records of work performed; uses version control
- Research grammar, style, and usage questions
- Confirms that appropriate copyright permissions have been secured
- Continually upgrades knowledge of American Heart Association products and programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field
- 3 + years of relevant experience
- Ability to communicate, build relationships, gain trust and effectively work with volunteers and employees
- Strong experience in copyediting and proofreading scientific, technical, or medical material
- Strong experience in editing content for digital products (online courseware, mobile apps, video)
- Mastery of editorial standards (grammar, major medical/scientific style guides, page design)
- Ability to target tone and writing level for different audiences (health care professionals, corporate, and general) and different media
- Project management skills and adherence to schedules/deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Ability to travel 10% of the time per year
Preferred:
- Formal training or certification in health care writing or editing
- Knowledge of copyright laws
Compensation & Benefits
The expected pay range will be $65,000 to $85,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. The American Heart Association invests in its people.
