Unicorn Role Overview: We are a growing start-up company in the real estate industry seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our team! This role is a full-time position that requires real estate accounting experience, investment accounting experience, and knowledge of accrual-based accounting. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller and play a crucial role in the daily accounting and month-end reporting of short-term rental homes management and corporate accounts.
Requirements
What you’ll do:
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of financial statements for the portfolio of properties in compliance with company policies and US GAAP, including producing month-end internal and external reports.
- Manage the daily accounting activities of the portfolio, including overseeing the month-end close process.
- Conduct detailed reviews of property financial statements (profit and loss statements, balance sheets, general ledgers, and sub-ledgers) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Create and post journal entries, including month-end accrual and prepaid entries, and maintain related account reconciliations.
- Manage daily cash account transactions and review accounts payable for proper coding.
- Act as a leader in internal and external customer service, assisting the Controller with more complex issues.
- Respond to external audit requests and ensure compliance.
- Ensure accurate and timely filing and payment of occupancy tax, as needed.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- At least six years of progressive experience in accounting.
- Strong knowledge of real estate terms, definitions, and accounting principles.
- Familiarity with US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
- Full understanding of general ledger and sub-ledger.
- Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Effective and efficient communication skills.
- Excellent organization, time management, and multitasking abilities to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects.
- Demonstrates leadership, collaboration across departments, and a professional demeanor.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and impeccable follow-through.
- Flexible, adaptable, and a self-starter in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
- Willingness to take on additional challenges and responsibilities.
If You Have These, That's a Plus:
- CPA or master’s degree
- Experience with NetSuite
- 3+ years in Real Estate Accounting
