About this role

We have an immediate need for an experienced Commissioning Manager. As a Commissioning Manager at NORESCO, you will supervise a team of our highly trained Commissioning Agents while actively participating in multiple projects. You will interact with NORESCO leadership and develop Commissioning Procedures to support NORESCO business objectives. This position requires extensive partnering with each of our departments, project team members, subcontractors, and, most importantly, our customers. Since you will be leading and directing Commissioning Processes for our multidisciplinary project teams, it is of the utmost importance that you are an articulate, persuasive, and motivated professional with excellent technical, communication, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • People Management Skills – Responsible for coaching to empower individuals by providing guidance, support, and encouragement to help them achieve their personal and professional goals, and the goals of the business.
  • Project Management Skills – Effectively work with a diverse team(s) of project managers, engineers, technicians, subcontractors and clients to support development, design, construction, and closeout of projects while meeting deadlines, budgets, and maintaining agreed upon schedules.
  • Technical Management Skills – Hire and manage talented technical personnel, support their professional development, and provide them with the coaching, mentoring, and training needed to succeed.
  • Commissioning Process Management – Display a deep understanding of how Buildings, Systems, and Equipment are commissioned. Able to support development and implementation of Commissioning Process Standards, Budgets, Templates, Schedules, Resource Forecasts, and Training Documents.
  • Leadership Skills – Assess project team talent/abilities to leverage resources to drive results. Lead direct reports (Commissioning Agents) and project teams on a portfolio of projects and assignments in a fast paced and continuously changing environment.
  • Quality Control Skills – Develop robust process controls that ensure consistent quality using practical and repeatable methods. Able to review project documents and deliverables to identify errors, concerns, or ambiguities.
  • Technical Ability – Display an understanding of how complex mechanical and electrical equipment and systems (Boilers, Chillers, VFDs, Controls, Pumps, etc.) work from experience or reading technical manuals to support Commissioning Agents and project teams. Develop and maintain proficient skill levels in multiple technologies and systems.
  • Investigate and identify the root causes of problems, securing relevant information and identifying possible solutions.
  • Communicate to accurately summarize issues and facilitate the exchange of information within project teams and to senior leadership.
  • Work with project teams and manage risks by identifying and addressing contractual obligations pertaining to scopes of work, schedules, costs, deliverables, commissioning, performance guarantees, etc.
  • Document Control – Ensure Commissioning Agents are producing and maintaining project tracking tools, scheduling and completing tests, collecting and organizing commissioning documentation, and tracking deficiencies.
  • Design Review – Assist our engineers and Commissioning Agents with reviewing submittals, drawings, and control sequences for compliance with project scope and design intent.
  • Project Development - Assist with project surveys and provide input during project development and design to support design/build objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline OR technical education i.e.; Navy Nuclear Power program OR Associates Degree in a technical field
  • 3+ years of experience managing direct reports
  • 10+ years’ experience working with mechanical, electrical equipment and systems, (COGEN, Boilers, Chillers, VFDs, Controls and Pumps).

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain proficient skill levels in multiple technologies and systems
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain data to effectively analyze issues.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to clearly and concisely explain observations and conclusions regarding technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
